The Bultmans and Gunninks (Part 3)

On Saturday it was Katie's birthday, so we decided to do something fun that none of us had really done before...snowshoeing!  Brian and I had done it the weekend before and enjoyed it, so we thought our guests would enjoy it too.

The boys and I took the train to Oberstdorf and met Brian and the girls there (they had taken the car since we didn't all fit in it) and we made our way to a ski hill in a small town in Austria (near Oberstdorf) to try out snowshoeing.  We found a ski hill that we could climb and headed on up!  We had rented 6 pairs of snowshoes for everyone to use and it was a beautiful day to try them out!

After we had spent most of the day snowshoeing, I headed back on the train with the ladies and Brian took the guys home.  We had an interesting ride on the train to say the least!  The last stop before we were supposed to get off, a brass band got onto the train and we made friends with the bass drummer and another man.  They had had quite a bit to drink and were quite excited when they found out it was Katie's birthday.  The band played "Happy Birthday" to her and we were quite embarrassed!  Everyone knew we were not German because the men were talking to us in English.  They wanted us to come and hang out with them in Lindau when we got off the train, so we made sure that we got off the train very quickly and got far away from them!  I think Brian was a bit surprised when he found us several blocks away from the train station when he came to pick us up!

After we had all showered, we went out to eat for Katie's birthday.  We went to a restaurant in another town that had been recommended to us and we were once again confronted with the strange German holiday of Fasnacht.  The restaurant had quite a number of adults dressed up as witches and other things.  They were having a great time drinking and dancing though!  It was quite entertaining to watch!  We had a nice dinner and got to try a new place out.
