Flying to Canada

This morning I woke up to an usually large amount of Canadian geese honking. I thought nothing of it because we usually have a few families of Canadian geese in the pond outside our slider door. I just got back from running a few errands and heard more honking. I looked outside the window and was amazed at what I saw! When I counted, there were 60 Canadian geese total, some of those being babies. Here's some pictures.

My Stud Muffin

Since Brian is now a hard working man with a desk job and conferences he has to attend, we decided that it was time for him to have a couple of suits. He picked them up today after having them altered and modeled them for me. I thought I'd take pictures of each and see what everyone else thought. He has to attend a conference in Atlanta, GA the first full weekend in September and is wondering which one he should wear. Any votes?

Museums, Metroparks, and MTU

This past Saturday we went to the Detroit Institute of Arts (DIA). We both forgot the camera, so I have no pictures to show of it. We went with one of the free museum passes from the library. It was a very large art museum and we didn't get through all of it before our feet hurt. I especially enjoyed the Diego Rivera painting after studying him in high school Spanish class. The contemporary art was a little strange, but fun to look at. We had lunch at a little Mediterranean place near my school that was pretty good.

Sunday we had the MTU Company Picnic at the Kensington Metropark. This was was north on 96, so we had to drive a little ways to get there. It took us a while to figure out which party we were going to, but it ended up being the biggest one with lots of tents and two giant blow-up toys for the kids. They had food, face painting, and a balloon clown. There were games and dancing. It was fun to watch the kids enjoying themselves. Brian recognized some people there, but doesn't know too many people in the company yet to know anyone very well. No one else from his department was able to come.

After we had eaten, we went to the lake that is in the Metropark and went fishing for a little while. Brian caught one very small fish, but that was it. It was a very nice Metropark because there is a lake that you can take boats onto and lots of trails for bikes and walking. There were quite a few parties there.

Brian has a busy few next weeks. This weekend we are coming home. Next week Tuesday through Friday, Brian is going to Katolight in Mankato, MN for a brand launch. The following Sunday through Wednesday, he has an EGSA Conference at a hotel in Atlanta, Georgia. When he finally returns to work, he has training for the rest of the month on engines. He's enjoying his job and finally starting to do things on his own.

I start school next week, so I'll be busy while Brian is gone so much. I have a conference planned for later in September. We also finally have dentist appointments. There's so many things that still need to happen even though we moved here almost 3 months ago. We enjoy it though.

Visitors and Henry Ford

Our last week has been a busy one! We had three different groups of visitors and visited the Henry Ford Museum. Here's a little update on what we've been up to.

Last Monday-Tuesday, my mom and sister came to visit. They got here Monday night when I was home from work and Tuesday we went to the Tanger Outlet Mall in Howell, MI. We had a great day of shopping and had a very good dinner at the Tomato Bros. restaurant near the mall. I definitely want to go back there someday!

Last Friday-Saturday, my friends Deb and Becky came to visit. Deb had been here briefly before, but Becky had yet to see our apartment. They came Friday afternoon after spending the day at IKEA and enjoyed dinner with us. We spent the evening playing games and watching the Olympics. Saturday morning they stayed for yummy breakfast and then headed back to GR.

After Deb and Becky left, Brian and I went to the Henry Ford Museum (part of our free membership). We ate lunch at the Wienermobile restaurant and had a very yummy BBQ footlong hotdog. We didn't get through the whole museum, so we hope to go back again to see what we missed. A transformer had gone out, so part of the lights were out, so we just skipped those parts. There are pictures below of our time at the museum

Saturday-Sunday, my sister and her boyfriend, Kyle, came to visit. They had shot a wedding in Bloomfield Hills and didn't want to make the trip home at midnight. They spent the night and then left again in the morning.

Monday-Tuesday, Brian went to Windsor, Canada with work. A co-worker of his cannot leave Canada because he does not have a visa, so Brian and his co-workers went to Canada instead. He got a free upgrade to a huge room that he hardly stayed in.

We definitely had our share of visitors this past week which was very nice. I am looking forward to things getting back to normal before school starts on September 3 for me. Things will be very busy for the two of us through September. Brian has a trip to Georgia and a class at work to attend throughout September. I get full swing into classes and still work 20 hours a week. I will try to keep this updated on how things are for us.

Enjoy the pictures!

Greenfield Village

One of my birthday presents was a membership to the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Today we decided to activate the membership and check out Greenfield Village. Neither of us had been since we were kids, so it was fun to go and see what was new since the last time we were there.

We really enjoyed ourselves and got to see all the sights despite a little bit of rain in the afternoon. In the afternoon we saw a bit of a baseball game from the 1800s. They don't use mitts, so it was pretty interesting to see how they caught fly balls and changed the rules a bit.

Brian got pretty geeked out with all the engines and generators in the Edison exhibits and I got pretty geeked out with Noah Webster's house and the books in his display. It was nice that there was something for each of us there. We also saw lots of sheep who didn't want to come out from under the tree even though it had stopped raining. :)

We plan to check out the rest of the museums that we can get into for free or discounted prices with our membership. We'll keep you updated on how the rest of them are.

North Manitou Island

Here are some very belated pictures from our trip to North Manitou Island over Memorial Day. It was a wonderful trip with wonderful friends that we would do again in a heartbeat! Enjoy!
