Luzern is on a lake and the river that flows out of the lake. The Alps are on the other side of the lake. It started off pretty cloudy at the beginning of the day.
There were some interesting trees by the water. These seem to be everywhere in this area, but I'm not really sure what kind they are.
This next picture is one for the Pfruenders. I thought it was pretty funny because there was a Jack and Betty sitting by the lake. They travel a lot!
When we got into the town, we heard a band playing and had to figure out where it was coming from. As we got closer, we found that there was a big crowd of people watching two different groups of people. One was a band dressed in blue/white uniforms and the other was a group in red with guns. There were also some men dressed as monks and other strange people.
We then found a horse that we had to take our picture by. Here is Jane, Lindsay, and I with our new friend.
Luzern had some great buildings and signs. It was fun to walk around the town and see the different paintings on the buildings even though I didn't know what most of the buildings were for.
As we walked around the town, we kept running into the men from the square. The band played almost the whole day while walking around the town and we kept running into them wherever we went.
Since we were in Switzerland, we had to take a picture of this funny man in front of a store with the Swiss flag.
And of course, some pictures of us with the famous bridge in the background. We had to take two pictures though so that we had everyone in them.

And also some pictures of the bridge without us in front of it.
We then decided to check out the remnants of the old city wall. There is still a good sized piece standing, so we walked around it to see the different towers.
As we were walking up to the wall, we saw jets coming in for a landing.
There were also some animals around the wall that we had to check out. It is definitely the hairiest cow I've ever seen!
There was a pretty great view of the lake and the mountains front the top of the wall.
We did find one place that we could get a picture of the 6 of us. Brian was able to set the camera on a wall and set the timer to get a picture of us. There's a few shadows in weird places, but it's the only picture we have of the 6 of us!

We then made our way back through town a found a grocery store to get a few things at. Brian and I had to get a magnet because we are collecting magnets from all the places that we go. There was also some sweet bread/candy stuff that the others wanted to get. Brian and I weren't huge fans of it. After the grocery store, we found our way to the Lion statue. Apparently, this is the most famous thing in Luzern. It is a statue of a lion that is carved into the side of a rock wall. It is in memory of Swiss men who fought in the French Revolution. The lion is crying for the men who died. In front of it, there is a pool. We sat here for quite a while and ate our food and took some time to get off our feet and people-watch.
We then were heading back to the water to get more pictures of the mountains because the clouds had cleared up and we stumbled upon a very pretty church.
The mountains were excellent and we had to get a few pictures of ourselves by them. I have the ones of us and Gus and Lindsay, but Jane and Steve had their picture taken with someone else's camera.
We then went onto the bridge that we had been seeing all day. It is all made from wood and part of it burned down in 1993 from someone dropping a cigarette butt on it. They don't allow smoking on the bridge any longer. It had been rebuilt, but you can still see some of the damage from the fire on the paintings that are inside the bridge.
Overall, we had a great day in Luzern and had a beautiful day to be there! It was fun to actually be in Switzerland even though the people all spoke German. It was also great to be able to go somewhere with friends.
