Chocolate Chip Cookies

And now you're probably thinking, "Seriously, Beth??  You're going to blog about chocolate chip cookies?  You need to see more of Europe to have more exciting things to blog about!"  But, I must tell you that this is truly a very exciting thing to blog about when living in Germany!!

Germans do not generally make their own sweets, but rather buy them from a bakery.  Needless to say, ingredients for good, American sweets are hard to come by in German grocery stores.  We have not eaten good American chocolate chip cookies since we were living there last summer and it has been far too long!

Several weeks ago, an American friend of mine here was invited to go to an army base American grocery store.  It is necessary to have an invitation to use one of these, so it was such a big deal that she e-mailed several other Americans in the area to see if there was anything we wanted.  Brian and I came up with a small list for her and two of the things on that list were brown sugar and chocolate chips...two things that are non-existent here.

We finally went grocery shopping the other day and got butter so that I could make the cookies!  We had the friends who had gotten us the groceries over last night for a traditional German dish, but we had American chocolate chip cookies for dessert!  They were soooo good!  Do not take for granted the amazing goodness you have by living in the States!
